Do you like using Instagram? I do and part of the reason for my interest in the app is because of my favorite influencers like international_nat, who give valuable insights about traveling experiences across different continents. Nat was the reason I got on to become an Instagram influencer in my own niche – Digital Marketing.
Speaking of which, Instagram influencing has become a big thing as of late. However, people only see the flash and glitter, but the reality is far away from it. The success on Instagram looks like an overnight thing, but it takes a lot of effort, creativity, blood, and sweat to become an Instagram celebrity.
Now, you might be wondering how does that happen? What formula do people use to gain a following on Instagram? The answer to that would be a detailed one as I have studied about that for a month now.
So, join me as I unfold the simple yet effective way to become an Instagram influencer.
What Are Instagram Influencers?
These are people who have flourished in the follower count and are heard on the platform. This is the basic definition of an Instagram Influencer. However, there are multiple sub-categories for Instagram influencers.
- Under 10k followers is a nano-influencer
- Micro-influencers have around 10-100k followers
- Somewhere between 100k to a million followers is a macro-influencer
- Someone who has more than a million followers is a mega-influencer
There are different strategies that these Instagram influencers use to boost the number of follower count and achieve the status of influencing through media.
Let’s talk about these strategies now.
Step 1: Find Your Interesting Niche
First things first, you need to find a niche that you love working on, and one where people have their eyeballs stuck watching content about it. It could be career growth tips, trending fashion, quick grandma recipes, or soccer.
Please note that you need to find your interest in the niche and not just go with whatever is trending. Trends come and go but if you don’t have an interest in that niche, you will be wasting time on something that stresses you out (Been there, done that).
Step 2: Set Clear Goals
Some wise man said plans without goals are like going everywhere but the destination. Yeah, that wise man is me.
You need to set clear goals – where you want to be in a year, what target audience you’d be speaking to, and the outcome you want. This should be your priority, otherwise you will end up making plans that will help you grow but on the wrong axis.
Step 3: Create Your Instagram Profile
Once you have picked your niche and set your goals, it is time to hop on the train and start.
Download Instagram on your Android or iPhone and sign up for a new account. Pick a name that is unique and could be creative. For example, I love watching this German vlogger who travels around the globe on his bike. His Instagram username is WildLensByAbrar, and he posts unique content and conveys what he does brilliantly.
So, grab your pencil and paper, brainstorm naming ideas, write a crispy bio, and last but not least, upload your profile photo.
Step 4: Be Consistent
At this point, you will have a good foundation. The next step? Start posting.
Share your first post, tell them your stand-out story, what you do, and what people should expect from you. Once you are done with your first post, start to post with consistency. We have all been there (struggling with consistency). But you need to understand the algorithm. If you care about the platform, the platform will care for you. So, show them your intent by posting content regularly.
Oh, and don’t let external factors like poor internet connection halter your consistency. I was struggling with that too, until I switched to one of the high-speed Optimum Internet packages that don’t have the fuss of data caps and contracts. Its reliability ensures I can post or livestream whenever I want.
Step 5: Only post quality
You might have seen some below-par content going viral and wonder if you should post that too. Hear me out Don’t! It will only affect your page negatively. You are actually representing your brand there, and your personality, so it better be good.
What is good Instagram content? Visually appealing content that tells a clear story and adds value to the lives of people. The last one is more important. You can use all those great cameras and mics, but if it isn’t value-adding, it is not good.
Step 6: Engage with your audience
You need to engage with your audience or you will end up with an audience that is just a number.
When you’re on Instagram, you are in a community that needs to be engaged through comments replies, likes, or incorporating them into your content next time. It is extremely important to keep interacting with your audience.
Your interaction with the Instagram audience not only increases engagement but also helps with visibility.
Step 7: Stay Patient
All those influencers you see on Instagram started with zero follower count. I don’t know them personally, but what I do know is that they must have spent significant time and energy to get where they are right now.
If you don’t see a spike in follower count, don’t be disappointed. Just keep posting valuable content, and the Instagram algorithm will give you a much-needed push.
Also, this is where my first step comes into play. If you love the niche you are working in, you’re almost guaranteed to never feel burnout. So, just keep posting what you love, and eventually, you will see a gain in follower count.
